After receiving his Ph.D. in Statistics with an emphasis in Biostatistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Casper joined the faculty of the University of Utah School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Pediatric Critical Care. He has collaborated with researchers from a variety of areas including cardiology, oncology, hematology, neurosurgery, nutrition, neurology, and emergency medicine, among others. Dr. Casper also co-authored a graduate level textbook on statistical methods for clinical trials.

Dr. Casper is currently biostatistician for the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN). He is also currently leading the Data Coordinating and Analysis Center for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Network of Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Centers (NPMSC) as principal investigator. Through these efforts, he has supervised study coordination, data collection, and analysis for several multi-center clinical trials and other studies. He also assists investigators at the university through the Study Design and Biostatistics Center of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS).

Dr. Casper's research focus is clinical trial design and statistical methods for the analysis of clinical trial data. Statistical methods he is interested in are areas like survival analysis, longitudinal data, gene expression microarray analysis, and classification algorithms.
