Dr. Moon is a Professor and Senior Scientist in the Departments of Pediatrics and Molecular and Functional Genomics at Geisinger Clinic. She is also Professor of Pediatrics and Human Genetics (adjunct) at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She received an MD/PhD from the Medical Scientist Training Program at Washington University in St. Louis (1992) and performed a Pediatric residency at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City. Dr. Moon completed a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah /Primary Children’s Medical Center (1998). She also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Molecular Genetics in the laboratory of Dr. Mario Capecchi at the University of Utah. She progressed to full professor at the University of Utah in the Departments of Pediatrics, Neurobiology and Anatomy, and Human Genetics. She relocated to Geisinger Clinic in 2011 but maintains adjunct appointments at the University of Utah and the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine.
Dr. Moon’s research interests include determining the molecular mechanisms that drive normal and abnormal development of the heart, lungs and limbs, as well regulation of cell fate, senescence, alternative RNA splicing and oncogenesis. She received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the National Office of Science and Technology, Executive Office of the President of the United States for her work on conditional mutagenesis in the mouse and it application to identifying the functions of growth factor signaling in early heart development (2004). She was elected into the American Society of Clinical Investigation in 2006 and was selected as a National Academy of Science Kavli Frontiers of Science Fellow in 2007. Her research has been continuously funded by the NIH (NICHD, NHLBI) since 2000, and has also been supported by grants from the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes and the American Lung Association.
