William Hutson, MD, is professor of medicine, director of hepatology, and medical director of liver transplantation in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is also an investigator and clinician with the Gastrointestinal Cancer Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI).

His clinical specialty is treatment of liver disease and liver transplants. Hutson's research interests include hepatitis C, especially as it affects liver transplant patients, and insulin resistance associated with hepatitis C. In addition, he studies the treatment of cholangiocarcinoma with liver transplantation, as well the treatment of fatty liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. His research also includes establishment of a hepatic research registry.

Hutson received his medical degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown in 1982, and he completed internship and residency at West Virginia University/Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston. In addition, he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at University Health Center of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
