Dr. Poss completed his undergraduate and medical school studies at the University of Kansas, pediatric residency at the Naval Hospital Oakland, and a pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Utah. He retired in 2007 after 20 years in the US Navy where he served a variety of leadership positions including Director of Graduate Medical Education fand the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Naval Medical Center San Diego. In addition, he served as an Amphibious Task Force Surgeon in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2001-2002 and as the THIRD Fleet Surgeon from 2005-2007. Dr. Poss is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

He is currently a Professor of Pediatrics and the Chief Medical Education Officer and Associate Dean, GME for University of Utah Health.. His areas of clinical interest include the comprehensive care of critically ill and injured children, healthcare operations, graduate medical education, and critical care policy advocacy.
