Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Dr. Carter Bruett (he/him/they/them) received his B.S., M.Ed. and D.D.S. degrees from the University of Utah. He then set off to New York City where he was trained in oral and maxillofacial pathology at New York Presbyterian/Queens in collaboration with Weill-Cornell Medicine, and New York University Langone Health. Returning to the University of Utah, he now is a full time academic dentist teaching at the School of Dentistry and seeing patients with clinical oral pathology needs through the University faculty practice. Dr. Bruett's research interests include exploring the mechanisms and management of Sjögren Syndrome, investigating the impact of chronic autoimmune conditions on the oral mucosa, identifying novel characteristics of the mechanisms of head and neck pathologies, and improving clinical treatment options for oral mucous membrane diseases such as dysplasia, lichen planus, and burning mouth syndrome/oral neuropathies.
