Dr. Bunsawat is a Research Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah and a Research Health Scientist at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center with long-term research interests in integrative human physiology with a primary emphasis on age- and sex-related health disparities among individuals with cardiovascular diseases. Her current research agenda broadly focuses on (1) understanding mechanistic underpinnings and physiological consequences of autonomic and vascular dysfunction in the context of aging and age-related diseases and (2) identifying lifestyle and pharmacological strategies to improve the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Some of the ongoing and upcoming projects include studies examining the efficacy of exercise training and drug interventions to improve autonomic and vascular function, muscle blood flow, and exercise tolerance in patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
