Dr. Novillo-Ortiz is an Adjunct Professor in the University of Utah’s Department of Biomedical Informatics.

He obtained his Masters and Ph.D. in Information Sciences from the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M), where his doctoral dissertation was awarded as Outstanding Thesis by the School of Library and Information Science. He also received a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Bordeaux and the Public University of Navarre and completed two Certificate Programs, one in Leadership Strategies for Information Technology in Health Care at Harvard University, and another in Public Health Informatics at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Novillo-Ortiz has over 15 years of experience in senior and leadership positions working in public health in the data and digital domains. Currently, he is a senior officer at the World Health Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations(*).

Dr. Novillo-Ortiz currently sits on the editorial board of the International Journal of Medical Informatics, and he is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at University College London (UCL).

His research interests include health informatics, digital data sources, health data governance and infodemiology.
