Patricia A. Eisenman, PhD

I did my undergraduate work at Colorado State University and received my doctorate in 1973 from Kent State University. Over the years, I have provided service to a number of professional, sport and commercial organizations. Most recently I am on the certification examination board for the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and the science advisory board for Turning Point, the manufacturer of core training and assessment device. While here at the University of Utah for the past 29 years, I have had the good fortune to mentor many undergraduate and graduate students. During my tenure at the U, I have also served as chair of the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Health. I have served on many departmental, college, and university committees and currently I am chair of the university’s Diversity Requirement Committee.

Research Statement

My own research and that of my graduate students has sought to better understand the effects of exercise and training regimes on both the performance potential of athletes and the fitness levels of youth and adults of all ages, particularly girls and women. Because we have collaborated with a number of colleagues, our work has included epidemiological retrospective studies examining cardiovascular disease risk to laboratory based training studies examining testosterone response to resistive exercise to questionnaire-based studies examining the beliefs and attitudes of fitness professionals toward obese participants.
