I am a Professor at the University of Utah in the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. I primarily teach courses in outdoor recreation, experiential education, youth development, and research design and analysis. Our lab group studies the impacts of outdoor education and recreation on youth and emerging adults.
Research Statement
I remain most interested in how recreation programs and experiences can be designed and implemented to best afford developmental experiences for youth. My approach to research is generally to bridge theory and practice. I believe Parks, Recreation, and Tourism is an applied discipline and that our research should have practical implications. I generally use quantitative techniques.
