Dr. Hardikar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Physiology, and an Investigator in the Cancer Control Population Sciences Program at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah. She also holds an Affiliate appointment at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, where she completed her post-doctoral fellowship. She earned her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington and her Masters in Epidemiology from The Ohio State University. Dr. Hardikar’s research is focused on better understanding the critical link between chronic conditions often characterized by inflammation and aging, including diabetes, metabolic dysfunction, and obesity, and the development and progression of cancer. Her work leverages large-scale epidemiological studies and electronic health records to identify key molecular pathways and biomarkers associated with the risk and survival of cancer and its precursors, with a particular focus on colorectal cancer. Dr. Hardikar’s NIH-funded career development award is focused on the relationship between type-2 diabetes and colorectal cancer risk, while her R01 award explores clinical and patient-reported outcomes in older adults with colorectal cancer.
