Dr. Winter is an Emeritus Professor of Radiology with Tenure. His primary interest is patient care, followed closely by teaching. He has given over 700 invited lectures, >120 of which were outside of the USA (including all continents except Antarctica and Africa). Particular clinical and research interests include obstetric sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, ultrasound-guided biopsies, tumor ablation, virtual colonoscopy, abdominal transplant organ imaging, and the multistep progression of hepatocellular carcinogenesis. His work has resulted in over 120 refereed scientific publications, 57 other publications, 55 book chapters, 3 books, 128 scientific presentations, and 3 patents. He graduated from a large public high school in Virginia (valedictorian), earned his BA double majoring in Math and Physics (ΦΒΚ), MA in Physics (5 A+’s, 5 A’s, and 1 B+), and MD (ΑΩΑ) degrees from Duke University, received his radiology training at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, and did a fellowship in Abdominal Imaging at the University of Washington. Away from work, he attempts to spend as much time as possible with his family enjoying the stunning outdoor scenery that is found throughout the incredibly beautiful state of Utah.
