Troy E. Madsen, MD, FACEP, is a tenured Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He is board certified in emergency medicine and addiction medicine. He practices at the University of Utah Hospital Emergency Department, where he specializes in the treatment of emergent conditions and teaches residents, medical students, and pre-medical students. He is also a Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) through the American Board of Wound Management and cares for patients at the Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Treatment Center of Utah.
Research Statement
Troy E. Madsen, MD, is a physician-scientist who is board certified in emergency medicine and addiction medicine. He currently serves as the site principal investigator for the Emergency Department-Initiated buprenorphine and VAlidaTIOn Network Trial (ED-INNOVATION), funded through the National Institutes of Health HEAL Initiative. He has received funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to investigate an emergency department program of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral for Treatment (SBIRT). He has multiple research publications related to opioid prescription reduction and effective treatment of pain in the emergency department. He has additionally received funding for several studies of pulmonary embolism diagnosis and treatment as well as risk stratification of emergency department patients with chest pain. Dr. Madsen has more than 100 research publications which span the full spectrum of emergency medicine investigation.
