Xiaoming Sheng, Ph.D., is a Research Professor of Pediatrics and a statistician. He has a vital collaborative role in the Department of Pediatrics, providing pivotal and insightful statistical guidance for the great variety of clinical investigations by the many Pediatric junior faculty nurtured by the Pediatric Clinical and Translational Research (PCAT) program. Dr. Sheng is a highly valued and important collaborator, skilled in statistical methodology. As a collaborator with a broad range of field-specific researchers in the School of Medicine, his expertise advances the research of others.
Dr. Sheng teaches advanced statistical methodology and has developed and taught courses in the curriculum of the Masters of Statistics-Biostatistics and Ph.D. in Public Health. He has had a major role as Statistical Mentor for PCAT Scholars representing numerous subspecialties, including many of our pediatric faculty. He leads small group case-based learning sessions in 1st and 2nd year medical school curriculum.
Dr. Sheng has a very strong administrative leadership role for statistics as applied to basic and clinical research by faculty and trainees in the University and Medical School, serving on many committees.
Dr. Sheng earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Engineering in China. He earned a Master of Science in Statistics in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dr. Sheng received a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta in Canada. He was appointed at the University of Utah in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, eventually transferring to the Department of Pediatrics, with an appointment as a Research Associate Professor.
