Dr. Yan-Ting Shiu is a Professor of Internal Medicine in the University of Utah’s Division of Nephrology and Hypertension and an Investigator at the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute. She obtained her B.S. degree from National Taiwan University and her Ph.D. from Rice University, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego. She began her faculty position at the University of Utah in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, where her work focused on classroom teaching and committee service. Since transferring to Internal Medicine in 2010 to focus on research, she has become a nationally and internationally recognized leader in translational research on hemodialysis arteriovenous access dysfunction. She also conducts clinical research and is an investigator in the NIH-funded HFM and CRIC studies. In recent years, she has expanded her research program to investigate vascular dysfunction in patients with chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular disease. She has contributed significantly to vascular research by advancing our understanding of how hemodynamic forces regulate vascular function and by identifying novel diagnostic and therapeutic targets for hemodialysis vascular access dysfunction.
