Harrison McUmber, MD (He/Him)

  • About Me

I grew up in the East Bay Area with my parents and younger brother. For the first half of my life, I planned on pursuing a career in art and spent most of my time drawing, painting, and avoiding all things science. It wasn’t until my second year of community college in San Luis Obispo, CA that I discovered my passion for biology and medicine. I eventually attended Tufts University for medical school and have spent the last three years in the foodie, outdoorsy city of Portland, ME. I found emergency medicine late in medical school and felt an instant connection to the enthusiasm, curiosity, and adventurous nature of this community. I can’t think of a better place to continue this journey than Utah and can’t wait to join the team!

    Interests & Hobbies

I’m at my happiest outside snowboarding, mountain biking, or camping with my partner and friends. When I’m able to find some time to myself, I love to draw, paint, listen to podcasts, and read - I’m always looking for new sci-fi and fantasy recommendations!

    Why Utah?

I was lucky enough to rotate at Utah in the beginning of my fourth year. I found all of the residents and faculty to be the most enthusiastic and welcoming people that I had met in medicine. They all went out of their way to teach, involve me in interesting cases, and invite me on group mountain bike rides through the Wasatch! I immediately felt at home in this community and knew that Utah was a place where I could thrive in and out of the hospital.
