About Me

Title:  Utah StARR Scholar

Kathleen Campbell is a pediatric resident at the University of Utah and a researcher training in Utah’s STARR program. She received her undergraduate degree in molecular and cell biology with an emphasis in neurobiology at the University of California, Berkeley. Before medical school, she worked as a research assistant on a longitudinal study of brain development in children with autism at the University of California, San Diego’s Autism Center of Excellence. She then completed medical school at Duke University. During medical school, she trained in clinical research in the Duke-NIH Clinical Research Training Program and received a Master’s in Health Science in addition to her MD. Inspired by her work with children with autism, much of her clinical training has been focused on early diagnosis of autism in primary care.

Dr. Campbell’s research interests include brain development, autism spectrum disorders, and children with complex medical needs. Her current work focuses on neurodevelopment of infants born with critical congenital heart disease (CHD). She is studying how neurobehavioral profiles of infants with CHD and their medical course after corrective surgery relate to their adaptive skills and behavior years later. She is working under the guidance of Drs. Kristi Glotzbach, Sarah Winter, and Thomas A. Miller at Utah’s Heart Center Neurodevelopmental Program.
