Message from the Chair

Welcome to the University of Utah Health’s Department of Neurosurgery. We are part of a quaternary medical center that treats the most complex patient cases in Utah and the Intermountain West.

Our neurosurgery faculty includes leaders in the subspecialized fields of cerebrovascular surgery, functional and stereotactic neurosurgery, neurosurgical oncology, and spine and peripheral nerve surgery. Each division is supported by a team of focused clinicians and researchers who provide leading-edge care.

We offer a residency program designed to provide well-rounded training in all aspects of clinical neurosurgery. Our program includes a research year that can consist of enrolling in further academic degrees, conducting specialized research in our laboratories, or participating in leadership development. The residents and fellows that participate in our program are some of the best and brightest, and we love seeing them move on to outstanding careers.

We also employ and support the development of state-of-the-art robotics and imagining technologies, as well as other ground-breaking forms of research that continually push us to the forefront of the medical community.

I take great pride in being part of a group of such talented and exceptional individuals who share the common goals of advancing the field through innovative and high-impact research, educating future leaders, and providing the highest level of neurosurgical care to our patients.

Sincerely,

William Couldwell, MD, PhD
