Introducing Dr. Valarie McMurtry

The Department of Pathology welcomes Valarie McMurtry, MD, PhD to the faculty. Dr. McMurtry has joined the Anatomic Pathology & Molecular Oncology Division as an Assistant Professor; she specializes in cytology, molecular pathology, and gynecological pathology.

As a former trainee in the Department of Pathology, Dr. McMurtry was well-acquainted with the department and ARUP before joining the faculty. She served as Chief Resident during her residency before undertaking fellowships in cytology and molecular genetic pathology here in Utah. 

A native of rural Texas, Dr. McMurtry completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Oklahoma. She later attended Louisiana State University for her MD training, in addition to earning a PhD in microbiology, immunology, and parasitology. 

Outside of work, Dr. McMurtry enjoys listening to jazz, cooking, and knitting. She has also taken up trail running since moving to Utah.
