Kari Barnard, MD

  • About Me

Dr. Kari Barnard will be starting her fellowship on August 1st, 2023. Kari is originally from Northern California where she spent her childhood backpacking and camping with her family. She has a keen interest in foreign travel, cultures, and languages. Before college, she spent a year in Southern Germany as a Rotary exchange student, learning German and living with host families. During college, she spent a summer living in South Korea tutoring children in English. She obtained a Bachelors degree in Spanish language from San Francisco State University, where she also studied abroad for a year in Santiago, Chile. After working for a few years in an ophthalmology practice in San Francisco, she started medical school at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, in Mexico. She then went on to complete her residency at Shasta Community Health Center in her hometown, serving as chief resident during her final year of residency. She always had a keen interest in women's health and obstetrics, but it was during residency that she really honed her interest in obstetrics and is excited to start her fellowship at the University of Utah. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, their newly welcomed infant son, and their Border-Aussie pup, Tulip. She also enjoys baking, sewing, and anything outdoors, including skiing, hiking, kayaking, and adventuring in their work-in-progress camp van, Dolly. She and her family are looking forward to finding permanent roots in a small mountain town or taking a faculty position at a rural family medicine residency program after completing the fellowship.
