About Me
Heaton grew up in Boise, Idaho, and completed his undergraduate studies at Idaho State University, where he studied microbiology. He then moved to Oregon to attend medical school at Western University of Health Sciences, where he conducted research on the expression of cell cycle proteins and DNA repair enzymes in the brains of patients with Western Pacific ALS/PDC, a neurodegenerative disease endemic to that region. During medical school, he developed a strong interest in neurology after working with acute stroke patients. He also discovered a passion for academic medicine while working as a teaching assistant. Outside of medicine, Heaton enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and listening to great music.
