Matthew was raised in Columbus, Ohio, and obtained his bachelors in biology from Alfred University in Alfred, NY. During his undergraduate career, Matthew volunteered as an emergency medical technician, and upon graduating fostered his interest in neurology working as a nursing assistant in a hospital neuroscience unit. By the time Matthew was a second year medical student, he realized that his interests were firmly rooted in neuroscience, focusing on brain tumors. Between his third and fourth years of medical school, he pursued a research internship in brain tumor immunology under the mentorship of Dr. Hideho Okada at the Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh. This basic and translational research experience has led Matthew to pursue a fellowship and career in neuro-oncology with the future goal of pushing the envelope of the treatment of brain tumors. He is excited to be working with the talented faculty at the University of Utah and is looking forward to taking advantage of the great outdoor opportunities of the West.
