  • About Me

Shumaila was born in Pakistan and moved to Minnesota as a teenager. She attended the University of Minnesota for both her undergraduate and graduate education in mechanical engineering. Following this, she worked for about 10 years as an engineer, most of which were spent in Seattle, Washington. During this time, she married and had three children. Her husband was in the military at the time and is now a retired military veteran. After considerable introspection, Shumaila came to the conclusion that medicine was better suited to her personality and interests. In 2017, she moved with her family to Florida to attend the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. She fell in love with neurology during her third year of medical school and is thrilled to have been accepted to the neurology residency at the University of Utah. She and her family look forward to making Utah a home, enjoying the variety of seasons it offers, and teaching their kids to ski. Her free time is mostly spent with her kids and husband, but when she does have the chance, she likes to do woodworking—mostly doing projects in the house.
