About the Subcommittees
Our committee is structured by four subcommittees:
- Recruitment and Retention
- Culture and Support
- Community Outreach
- Education
Recruitment and Retention
Dr. Carly Dahl leads the Recruitment and Retention subcommittee. The main focus centers around a holistic applicant review, post-match surveys, recruitment transparency for leadership positions, and exit interviews.
Culture and Support
The subcommittee of Culture and Support is led by Dr. Ijeoma Iko. This committee focuses on the departmental statement concerning discrimination based on race or a person's background that goes against values of belonging, faculty training in mentoring, and a BIPOC trainee support group welcoming all who champion trainees. Along with the departmental culture survey that guides the committee's strategic planning and opportunities for enriching departmental culture.
Community Outreach
The Community Outreach subcommittee is led by Dr. Ade Adesomo. By developing a partnership with Zuni Health Services, we are able to grow the partnership with Utah Doulas of Color. This has provided us with perinatal financial support to eliminate the two-tiered system based on the payor, and is a part of the Reproductive Justice Community Advisory Board led by the Division of Complex Family Planning.
Education
Our Education subcommittee is led by Natalie Moore. The main focus is on Grand Rounds, Didactic lectures, workshops, seminars, and faculty education. We would also like to highlight the work being done in the Committee by our resident representatives Dr. Amanda Tjitro, and Dr. Sonia Parra.
Committee Representation
We are represented on multiple committees within the School of Medicine, including the School of Medicine Office of Academic Culture and Community Departmental Leaders Committee, the UUH Graduate Medical Education Ideals Committee, and the Collaborative Anesthesiology Surgical Specialties Council (CASSC).
