University of Utah Health’s Hand team believes in the power of research to redefine the standard of care, and collectively strives to explore innovative, novel solutions to clinical challenges. They collaborate with a wide variety of clinical entities, including the VA, Primary Children’s Hospital, and Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, and manage a variety of research grants from funders including the Department of Defense.
The Hand team functions under the leadership of Professor Dr. Douglas T. Hutchinson, Associate Professors Dr. Angela A. Wang and Dr. Don Coleman, Assistant Professor Dr. Andrew Tyser, and Clinical Instructor Dr. Nikolas H. Kazmers. The team’s research foci include congenital hand deformities and upper extremity surgeries, developing neuroprosthetics for use in upper extremity amputees, and determining surgeries and procedures that lead to the best possible patient outcomes.
