Welcome Our New Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Chair

Jason Hunt, MD, MS, FACS, has been named the inaugural Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) in the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah, effective immediately. 

Dr. Hunt has been a transformative leader in OHNS, guiding its evolution from a division within the Department of Surgery to an independent and thriving department. Serving as Interim Chair since 2022, he has championed strategic growth, increasing clinical faculty by over 30%, expanding patient care locations, and driving a nearly 20% increase in clinical volumes. His commitment to advancing research has resulted in a nationally recognized program, bolstered by over $4 million in philanthropic support and strong interdepartmental collaborations.

Under Dr. Hunt’s leadership, OHNS has also strengthened its educational mission, expanding residency programs and launching a fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology. His dedication to fostering a supportive work culture has led to significant advancements in faculty recruitments and work-life policies, including improved parental leave. As Chair, Dr. Hunt is poised to further elevate the department’s national standing and commitment to excellence in patient care, research, and education.
