2024 PHS Internal Award Winners

​​​Researcher of the Year

This award honors a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding research achievements over the past year. The recipient may be recognized for one or more of the following exemplary contributions:

  • Significant Grant Awards: Receipt of major research grants that advance the department's mission and goals.
  • High Level of Productivity with Publications: A substantial number of publications in reputable journals, demonstrating consistent and high-quality research output.
  • Highly Impactful Paper: Authorship of a paper that has made a significant impact in the field, evidenced by citations, recognition, or influence on practice and policy.
  • Major Research Award from an External Organization: Receipt of a prestigious award or recognition from an external organization, highlighting the faculty member's contributions to their field.

Collaborator of the Year

This award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional collaboration skills. The recipient has actively engaged in interdisciplinary projects, fostered strong working relationships, and contributed significantly to team-based science or departmental initiatives.

Trainee Paper of the Year

This award celebrates a student or trainee (e.g. postdoctoral fellow) who has first authored distinguished research paper. The recipient's work should reflect high academic standards, innovation, and potential to advance their field of study.

Faculty Service Award

This award recognizes a faculty member who exemplifies exceptional citizenship within the department. The recipient demonstrates selfless dedication, support, and commitment to enhancing the department's culture and community. This includes contributions that go above and beyond their primary academic responsibilities.

  • Active Participation in Committees: Consistent and meaningful involvement in departmental committees, contributing to decision-making processes and departmental governance.
  • Mentorship and Support: Providing guidance, mentorship, and support to faculty, staff, and students, fostering a collaborative and nurturing environment.
  • Community Building: Engaging in activities that promote a positive and inclusive departmental culture, such as organizing events, participating in departmental initiatives, or offering support to colleagues.
  • Unselfish Contribution: Volunteering time and effort to assist with departmental needs, often without seeking recognition, and exemplifying the values of teamwork and collegiality.
  • Strong Attendance at Departmental Seminars, Parties, and Events: Regularly attending and actively participating in departmental seminars, social gatherings, and events, demonstrating a commitment to community engagement and collegiality.

This award honors a staff member who has demonstrated outstanding performance, dedication, and contribution to the department. The recipient's work has significantly enhanced the environment of the department or the research of a PHS faculty member.

Educator of the Year

Acknowledges faculty who have demonstrated exceptional mentoring, or teaching or dedication to trainee or early career faculty success. This award recognizes a faculty member who has shown exceptional commitment to education, teaching or mentoring students, ​postdoctoral fellows, or other trainees, or junior faculty.
