Welcome to the Family Medicine Obstetric Fellowship at the University of Utah! Our program boasts incredible training at a top tier academic institution in a vibrant city, uniquely situated at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. More than 20 years ago, our fellowship was developed as a program coordinated between the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Community Health Centers, Inc. (FQHC), with unwavering support from the Department of OB/GYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine colleagues. Uniquely, our fellows split their time between fellow activities (integral members of L&D services at 3 hospitals with operative responsibilities, specialty outpatient clinics, rural rotations) and managing a half-time practice as an attending in clinics based in the Community Health Centers, Inc. As a testament to our solid foundation and excellent training, we recently were awarded an HRSA grant that enabled us to expand our training to 3 fellows for the 2022-23 academic year and then 4 fellows each following year.
Apart from excellent training opportunities, life outside of fellowship in Salt Lake offers all of the amenities of a big city with a small town feel. Though growing rapidly, the Wasatch Front remains manageable to navigate and offers opportunities to attend theater, music events/concerts, major league sporting events, restaurants, parks, and festivals. Beyond the urban appeal, the outdoor activities are absolutely second to none! From hiking to biking to boating to paddle boarding to skiing/snowboarding to rock climbing to whatever outdoor activity you could want, you will find it here and unparalleled.
Our fellows come here for the amazing education and resources. Our graduates leave with training to serve any community, collegial ties to experts in their field and to varied careers as rural physicians, Community Health Center physicians in urban underserved communities, and academic educators across the US.
