About Me
Forrest Hamrick grew up in San Diego and left to attend BYU where he received an undergraduate degree in neuroscience. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mozambique, speaking Portuguese, for two years, after which, he returned and finished his undergraduate degree and a minor in Africana Studies. He returned to Mozambique in 2018 to start a non-profit organization called HealthLink Cooperative which partnered with a locally run group called Care for Life to improve maternal health outcomes. For several years during his undergraduate degree, Forrest worked as a counselor at an addiction recovery clinic. Inspired by the opportunity to advance his degree and intervene on behalf of patients, he pursued medical school. After traveling around the country for medical schools interviews, he decided to attend the University of Utah. Forrest, along with several of his med school classmates, dedicated himself to spaced-repetition studying and began a medical education organization called the AnKing, aimed at helping medical students everywhere master medical knowledge efficiently. His experiences with incredible neurosurgery mentors at the University of Utah led Forrest to pursue residency, and he was thrilled on match day to join such an incredible group of residents and attendings.
Medical Areas of Interest
Forrest has a deep interest in all areas of neurosurgery, and is currently considering skull base, spine, and pediatric neurosurgery as potential career paths.
Interests & Hobbies
Outside of the hospital, Forrest enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, fly fishing, snowboarding, and mountain biking. Because he was raised in San Diego, Forrest also finds time every year to surf.
