  • About Me

I spent the first ten years of my life in Singapore before moving to San Diego. I later pursued a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at UC Santa Barbara, where I realized my passion for bench science with an interest in becoming a research scientist. However, I ultimately chose a career in medicine due to its social nature and the opportunity to form direct relationships with patients. After completing my master’s in biochemistry and working as a researcher at MD Anderson in Houston, I attended the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio for medical school. Initially, I aimed to become an oncologist, inspired by my years of research in cancer epigenetics, but I found myself captivated by the complexity and breadth of neurosurgery, which sparked my deep fascination.

    Medical Areas of Interest

At this early stage of my career, I’m still exploring my options within neurosurgery. I have a keen interest in functional and open/endo-vascular neurosurgery, particularly in the innovative research opportunities they present.

    Interests & Hobbies

I enjoy spending time outdoors with friends, going hiking, and skiing. On my own, I love running in the natural landscapes of Salt Lake City, paragliding, and I’m excited to start mountain biking! I also enjoy trying new beers and watching movies with friends—if I can stay awake, that is.

    Why Utah?

I never imagined I would end up living in Utah, because it wasn’t on my radar. However, a chance meeting with a faculty member from Utah at a conference inspired me to apply for an away Sub-I. During my visit, I experienced an incredible sense of collegiality, kindness, and commitment to patient care that I hadn’t encountered elsewhere. Additionally, Salt Lake City is stunning, offering world-class paragliding, skiing, hiking, and beautiful natural scenery.
