The Medical Physics, under the Department of Radiation Oncology, is staffed by thirteen American Board of Radiology (ABR) certified, PhD medical physicists, each serving faculty appointments at the University of Utah’s School of Medicine. This highly trained and capable team is responsible for supervision and direction of all technical processes and staff related to treatment of our patients with radiation.
Additionally, the medical physicists serve as consultants to the radiation oncologist with regard to the treatment planning and delivery process. They also perform and publish clinically-oriented research into ways to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of the entire radiation treatment process, and they teach the underlying physics of radiation therapy to the department’s physician and medical physics residents.
