Letter to Prospective Applicants (IH)

Master of Science in Occupational Health (MSOH) In Industrial Hygiene (IH)

Dear Prospective Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in our industrial hygiene (IH) program. The program is part of the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-Sponsored Education and Research Center. The program is accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission (ASAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. We have an extensive network of graduates who provide valuable expertise and leadership to protect individuals in the workplace or in communities surrounding a workplace in our region and the United States.

The degree emphasizes practical experience and critical thinking. Students learn to define occupational and environmental health problems, identify and evaluate solutions, successfully manage appropriate intervention programs, and effectively work with stakeholders. Students have ample opportunity for hands-on experience using the latest techniques and equipment to recognize and evaluate hazards. Practical experiences, generally under the direction of a board-certified industrial hygienist, may be arranged with government, labor, or industry throughout the United States. Actual case studies are integrated throughout the curriculum. All students complete research projects under faculty guidance.

The degree requires 42 semester hours of course work leading to the Master of Science of Occupational Health degree with emphasis in industrial hygiene. The program is designed to accommodate individuals with extensive or even those with limited professional industrial hygiene experience. Each student creates an individual study plan with their academic advisor that meets their interests and long term goals.

Full-time MSOH students may receive full or partial NIOSH financial support that may include tuition payment and provision of a stipend.

Please call 801-581-4800 with any questions or for additional information. We look forward to speaking with you about our program.

Sincerely,

Industrial Hygine Faculty and Staff
