Emergency Department
The University of Utah Health Emergency Department is a Trauma 1, STEMI (heart attack) and Stroke receiving center that cares for the critically ill patients in our community and region. We specialize in the care of time sensitive conditions in patients with highly specialized needs and medical conditions. Patients from all over Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho and western Colorado are referred to our Emergency Department for definitive medical care.
All full-time faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine are board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Attending faculty are on duty 24 hours a day and are directly involved in the clinical training of residents and medical students. Academic faculty in the department are active in ongoing clinical trials and research at the University. Other specialties within the Department of Emergency Medicine include: Emergency Medical Services/Ambulance Services, Toxicology, Wilderness Medicine, Global Health, Ultrasound, Palliative Care, Sports Medicine, Informatics, and Clinical, Basic and Translational Research. The Department of Emergency Medicine also runs the AirMed Patient Transport Service.
