We all know that work impacts our health and well-being. Many of us experience high levels of workplace stress, some encounter physical hazards on the job, and still others are subject to bullying and abuse from colleagues, supervisors, or clients. But the conditions of work and employment in the U.S. impact more than just a single worker: they shape the well-being of our families, communities, and our whole society. This 6-hour, asynchronous online course allows learners to work through modules at their own pace to learn about the importance of healthy work, worker rights in the U.S., and what the future of work could look like for all of us. After completing this course, learners will be able to locate their own jobs within historical and current systems of work, explain how the principles of Total Worker Health® can be used in workplaces, and share stories of work today in preparation to change how we talk about it tomorrow. The completed course provides an estimated 6 hours of continuing education credit for re-certification as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or a Human Resource professional through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

  • Professional Education at the University of Utah handles enrollment. To earn a digital badge or certificate of completion, learners must complete all course content and assessments 60 days after the course begins.

  • Most learners will need to pay a $90 fee that allows Professional Education to host the course and award digital badges/certificates. However, U-POWER offers scholarships to those who are interested in the certificate but do not have the funds to currently pay the $90 tuition. All you need to do is fill out a short form where you explain your interest in the certificate and agree to commit to completing the course. Note: Scholarships are awarded first-come, first-serve (assuming that all items are filled out in the form) but are limited in number. Sign up today if you are interested!
