The number of people who suffer a stroke is increasing as the population ages. Stroke is a complex injury and we do not fully understand how people recover from stroke and what the best rehabilitation methods might be. Diffusion imaging with MRI has made recent advances and with new artificial intelligence tools, it is possible to obtain new information regarding tissue microstructure that better predict stroke recovery and enable us to better understand changes in white matter during stroke recovery. We develop new methods using MRI and deep learning to characterize people with stroke, which will allow for more informed treatments and monitoring of stroke.
