CATCH UP WITH TERESAS READING - CLASS OF 2000

This year it will be 25 years since I finished my surgical residency at the U. I look back very fondly at my time during residency and all the people in my life at that time. There was such a great group of residents and faculty! We all gave so much of ourselves to the patients and the work, but I got so much out of it. After residency, I was fortunate to join one of the surgical groups at LDS Hospital/Intermountain and have been with them since. Of course, things have changed in Salt Lake and at Intermountain over the years, so LDS is not the huge referral center it once was, but I still very much enjoy working here. I did General surgery and trauma for many years, but now I am very happy to be focusing on breast surgery.
I met my husband, Robert Stephen, in medical school at the University of Utah. He did his ER residency in Fresno, California, while I was in Salt Lake, but we managed to meet up every couple of months! We got married in my 4th year, and my wedding turned out as well as it did only because my fellow residents, Courtney Scaife and Angela Keen, were doing research and mostly put it together for me! Robert and I were apart while he finished his residency, and then he was happy to get a job at the University of Utah Hospital and move back for my last year of residency. We were both delighted when we were able to stick around and work in Salt Lake. We have 3 wonderful kids. Our twin girls just finished their first year of college. Haley is at University of Puget Sound and is on the rowing team, and Samantha is at Macalester College in Minnesota, doing economics, theater, and playing rugby! Aidan is going to be a senior at Skyline next year, and we are all interested as to if/when/where he might actually be interested in going to college. He is involved in theater, ballroom dance, and choir, and loves all that…the actual schoolwork part of school, he loves less. We also have 2 dogs who are a little neurotic and shed everywhere, but they are cute. We have been lucky to be able to travel to many countries as well as places in the United States. We still try to hike and camp a little every year.
I am very grateful for the education and support that I received during my residency, and I treasure my friendships and memories. I truly enjoyed most of my time during residency and hope that I have been able to give back to the community and make a little difference for people.
