NEW SURGEON SPOTLIGHT: THOMAS SHOULTZ

Thomas Shoultz, MD FACS is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Burn, Trauma, Acute & Critical Care at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also completed his internship and residency in General Surgery. Dr. Shoultz then completed a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Washington-Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. 

Dr. Shoultz was recruited to UT Southwestern in 2017. His clinical effort is devoted to attending at Parkland Hospital, DFW’s safety-net hospital and busiest Level 1 trauma center. Dr. Shoultz has served as Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency and Critical Care Fellowship, Co-Director for the Surgery Clerkship, Medical Director of Geriatric Acute Care Surgery, Associate Trauma Medical Director, and member of the Executive Council of Parkland Institutional Ethics Committee. His special interests lie at the intersection of surgical palliative care and communication skills, medical ethics, and geriatric care. 

Dr. Shoultz’ personal interests include travel, cooking, and collecting vintage furniture.
