ABOUT THE PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The University of Utah Division of Plastic Surgery research fellowship is a one year position starting July 1 to June 30. The fellows in this program take a leading role in multiple projects and in writing multiple clinical plastic and reconstructive surgery manuscripts. The fellow works with all of the Division of Plastic Surgery faculty, residents, and research staff to help design studies and complete previously initiated studies. At any given time, the fellow will be overseeing multiple projects. If the fellow is interested, opportunities for other basic and translational research also exist.

Applicants must have an interest in learning IRB submission, study design, basic statistics, database query and management, chart review, manuscript preparation/submission and grant writing. The fellow will be invited to participate in departmental conferences and educational activities and will also assist in the translational lab with surgeries and animal care.

This year long fellowship will culminate with multiple clinical manuscripts published on which the fellow will be an author. The fellow will have a budget for attending conferences to present their work.

Application Process

This position is open to current medical students as well as current residents.

Research Opportunities

Fellows will work closely with faculty to design studies, manage ongoing projects, and contribute to manuscript development. Additional opportunities in basic and translational research are available for interested applicants.

Fellows will participate in departmental conferences, educational sessions, and assist in the translational lab.

By the end of the year, fellows will have contributed to and co-authored multiple clinical manuscripts.

Compensation & Support

This is a salaried fellowship with an additional stipend for conference travel to present research findings.
