Spotlight on New Surgeon: Kelly Hewitt, MD
“I am thrilled to be the newest breast surgical oncologist on faculty at The University of Utah! It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 10 years since I finished residency. After spending 4 years practicing at a critical access hospital on the Oregon coast I pursued a breast surgical oncology fellowship at UCSF. I spent a year in community practice and then moved on to Vanderbilt where I was fortunate to have the opportunity to start to build on my clinical trials portfolio and experience. I eagerly accepted a position at The U and started in November as an Associate Professor in the new Division of Surgical Oncology. I look forward to providing excellent clinical care, continuing my clinical trials work, and striving to improve the care of all patients with breast cancer throughout the Intermountain West – whether they are cared for at The Huntsman or elsewhere. My partner and kids are enjoying the change of scenery and have really taken to mountain sports – we have 3 eager mountain bikers, hikers, and snowboarders! I am lucky to work with outstanding former mentors who have become colleagues as well as fresh faces that have continued to elevate the level of care at this wonderful institution. “
