What's next for Dr. Chen?
The UofU will always hold a very dear place in my heart as it is where my professional journey began, I learned not only how to operate but also how to think like a doctor, and most importantly cultivate my devotion to connect with and take care of patients. I started residency at the U in 2013, and after a brief stint in Ohio for fellowship, I returned as an attending in 2020.
And so it is with a heavy heart and mixed emotions that I leave the U at the end of 2024 to take on a new role. I have been asked to be the Medical Director of Bariatrics for the Intermountain Health Care System. This position entails developing a bariatric program first at LDS hospital and then beyond.
While this is obviously an exciting new opportunity, the decision to leave was not simple. In addition to the relationships with my patients, I think I will miss the camaraderie between my surgical colleagues and the opportunity to teach and interact with residents the most. As I write these words, I am reminded that the UofU is truly a special place.
