SUMMER 2025 UPDATES FROM SURGICAL ONCOLOGY

2025 SUMMER UPDATE FROM DR. SCAIFE

The seemingly still New Division of Surgical Oncology is so pleased to announce that Dr. T. Clark Gamblin has been named the inaugural Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology within the Department of Surgery, beginning August 16, 2025.

Clark Gamblin

Dr. Gamblin is a nationally recognized hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgeon and brings a wealth of experience as a clinician, researcher, educator, and leader. He joins us from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he served as Chief of Surgical Oncology and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations. His background in leading high-performing academic teams and building innovative clinical programs will be a tremendous asset as we continue to grow this new division.

We also celebrate the retirement of a long-time member of our surgical oncology program,Dr. Regina Rosenthal, who made significant contributions to breast cancer care, resident education, and the progress of the breast cancer program at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

We welcomed Dr. Devi Krishnamurty, a colorectal surgeon, most recently from the University of Nebraska.

We are looking forward to Dr. James Sun, who is finishing his surgical oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center and will join us this summer as a melanoma/sarcoma surgeon.

The Division of Surgical Oncology and the Huntsman Cancer Institute continue to grow and will expect exponential growth in the next five years as we anticipate the opening of a sister Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Utah County around 2030.

The Colon and Rectal Surgery team has also successfully launched their new fellowship program and applications are now open. Watch their new video showcasing the program and the people who make it possible.

At this time of year, attending our Chief Resident’s party reminds us of all our alumni and our rich history here at the University of Utah.

We hope all our alumni have a safe, productive, and personally healthy summer season of 2025, and we look forward to staying in touch.

Courtney Scaife, MD
Interim Chief, Division of Surgical Oncology
