Golf Weekend in Salt Lake City, August 20-22, 2021

Last summer, a somewhat impromptu golf event was organized by a group of former residents who finished the program 20+ years ago.  An idea that started with Phil Kladar (1997) rapidly gained momentum from both out-of-town alumni and those who live locally, resulting in the “first annual alumni golf weekend."

Based on their availability and interest, various combinations of nine golfers participated playing at the Salt Lake Country Club, Thanksgiving Point, and Bonneville golf courses. Courtney Scaife (2000) graciously organized an outdoor, informal get together on Friday evening with food supplied by a “taco truck” generously sponsored by the division of general surgery.  Non-golfers who came for this reception included Mark Savarise (1996), Eric Scaife (1999), and there was even a later cameo appearance for Saturday night dinner by Dirk Noyes (1978).

There were no trophies or awards for longest drive or closest to the hole and it’s unlikely that anyone bothered to keep score.  It was just a wonderful chance to relax, reconnect, reminisce, and maybe indulge in a bit of gossip with friends and colleagues from residency.  Something definitely worth doing and hopefully doing again, bigger and better.  Next year at Coeur d’Alene?
