Guest Speakers

Dr. Linda Shore-Lesserson is Professor of Anesthesiology at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra-Northwell, and Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at North Shore University Hospital, the flagship hospital of Northwell Health in New York. She is Co-Chair of the hospital Patient Blood Management Task Force.

Dr. Shore-Lesserson received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She was an anesthesiology resident and spent a specialty year in cardiothoracic anesthesia fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and National Board of Echocardiography.

Dr. Shore-Lesserson is a clinical and an academic cardiac anesthesiologist who is a Past President of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Board of Echocardiography. As an educator she has been Program Chair for numerous national meetings and is currently the general chair of the New York Society of Anesthesiologists’ - PGA Annual Meeting. She is a Vice Chair of the Surgery and Anesthesia Council (CVSA) of the American Heart Association (AHA) and she is a fellow of the AHA. Other multidisciplinary positions include the anesthesiology lead working with the STS and AmSECT on an interdisciplinary project “Best Practices in Perfusion Management”.

As past- chair of the Committee on Patient Blood Management for the American Society of Anesthesiologists, she stays active in that organization as the current Chair of the Committee on Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. She now serves as President Elect for the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM).

Research interests lie in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis as it relates to cardiovascular disease. The results of her research have been published in high impact peer reviewed journals and she lectures frequently at national and international scientific meetings. 

 

Keira Mason, MD, was Director of Radiology Anesthesia and Sedation at Boston Children's Hospital for almost 19 years. She has written policies, guidelines, and protocols for sedation delivered by both anesthesiologists and non-anesthesiologists in the Department of Radiology. She has edited three textbooks on Pediatric Sedation and co-edited a textbook entitled Total Intravenous Anesthesia and Target Controlled Infusions. She has published many chapters and manuscripts on dental sedation and office based anesthesia. She has served on FDA advisories for sedation, chaired international sedation task forces, created Adverse Event Sedation Reporting Tools which are in widespread, on-line use, and has conducted FDA approved pediatric studies using Dexmedetomidine. As Co-Chair of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Taskforce for Sedation and Sedation Continuing Education Committee on Sedation and Anesthesia, she had a leadership role in restructuring the dental continuing education requirements in the United States She is a frequent guest lecturer at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and lectures to multispecialties on dental and office based anesthesia and sedation worldˇwide, including the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD). Dr. Mason started an annual Pediatric Sedation Conference in 2005, which is the only international conference of this kind. In 2012 she expanded the conference to include dental sedation and dental simulation, establishing the Pediatric Dental Sedation Outside of the Operating Room Conference. To date, it is the only conference that is not affiliated with a dental society that has been approved as a registered continuing education provider for New York State and California. She is on the Editorial Board of British Journal of Anesthesia and has held committee positions and chair positions at the ESA, ASA. and SAMBA.

 

Dr. TJ Gan is Professor and Head, Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, UT Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. Previously, he was Distinguished Endowed Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine in Stony Brook, New York. Prior to that, Dr. Gan was Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chairman for Clinical Research and Faculty Development at Duke University. Dr. Gan received his medical training at the London Hospital Medical College of the University of London. He has attained licensure in acupuncture from the British College of Acupuncture and a Master in Clinical Research as well as a Master in Business Administration (MBA).

Dr. Gan is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and is a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (FASA). He serves as the Perioperative Medicine Executive Section Editor of Anesthesia and Analgesia and is on the Editorial Board of Perioperative Medicine.

Dr. Gan is the Founding President of the American Society for Enhanced Recovery (ASER), President of the Perioperative Quality Initiative (POQI), President Elect of the Association of Academic Anesthesiology Chairs (AAAC), a Past President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) and the International Society for Anesthetic Pharmacology (ISAP). Dr. Gan serves as the Vice Chair of Stony Brook Clinical Practice Management Plan (CPMP) and chairs the Pension and Benefits Committee.

He has published over 300 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and numerous books and books chapters. Dr. Gan has served as an invited speaker for many national and international professional conferences and as principal investigator or co-investigator for over 100 clinical trials, focusing on enhanced recovery and topics related to perioperative medicine, including postoperative nausea and vomiting, pain, fluid and hemodynamic management, and anesthetic pharmacology.
