Cardiothoracic Fellowship

The University of Utah Department of Anesthesiology offers a one-year ACGME accredited Cardiothoracic Fellowship following the completion of three years of clinical anesthesia. The cardiac anesthesia service line provides anesthesia for approximately 800-1000 cases per year at the University Hospital and Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. The cases include VAD insertion, heart transplant, lung transplant, total artificial heart, major aortic surgery, minimally invasive valve replacement, valve sparing root replacement, structural heart procedures, ECMO, as well as transcatheter aortic valve implantation, MitraClip, and other transcatheter procedures. 

Critical Care Medicine Fellowship

The section of Critical Care Medicine in the University of Utah’s Department of Anesthesiology is proud to offer a one-year ACGME accredited Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (CCM) Fellowship.  We currently offer up to two ACGME accredited positions per year.  This comprehensive and multidisciplinary fellowship program prepares anesthesiologists to become leaders in the field of critical care medicine.  The fellowship culminates in board eligibility for Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Pain Medicine Fellowship

Fellows train at the Pain Management Center and complete the other requirements, such as acute pain, cancer pain, palliative care, orthopaedic spine, pediatric pain, headache clinic, and pelvic pain clinic at the University of Utah Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, and the Veterans' Administration Hospital, all located close to the Pain Management Center.

Perioperative Echocardiography Fellowship

The Division of Perioperative Echocardiography in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah offers a one-year fellowship in Perioperative Echocardiography. Since 2002, we have offered up to four positions per year. This fellowship is under the direction of Dr. Josh Zimmerman, MD, FASE.

Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship

The Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM) Fellowship has a rich tradition of producing outstanding clinicians and leaders in the field. Our one-year, ACGME-accredited program offers an excellent training platform with rotations in Regional Anesthesia, Acute Pain Medicine, OR Anesthesia, Chronic Pain, Pediatric Regional Anesthesia and Trauma Regional Anesthesia. Fellows rotate at the University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, Orthopedic Specialty Hospital, Salt Lake VA Hospital, Primary Children’s Hospital and Chronic Pain Center.
