The University of Utah and the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine were hosts of an NIH-funded study in January of 2020. The study, titled "University of Utah Grant Writing Coaching Group Study," seeks to determine the best methods for coaching researchers writing applications for NIH grants. Specifically, the study focuses on the power of group mentorship, where a grant expert works with a group of NIH-applicants, giving participants the benefit of feedback from both an experienced researcher and their peer group. The meeting in January was the first leg of this study. Additional cohorts will meet over the next three years, providing the researchers with significant information as to the best practices in grant-writing coaching.
