Dr. Magill Receives Leadership Award

Last Thursday, Michael Magill, MD, Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the University of Utah Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM), was awarded the prestigious F. Marian Bishop Leadership Award during the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Annual Spring Conference, held online. The award was established in 1990 in honor of F. Marian Bishop, PhD, MSPH, President of STFM in 1981-1982 and Chair of DFPM in 1984-1994. It celebrates individuals who have significantly enhanced the credibility of family medicine through their sustained commitment to family medicine in academic settings.

Dr. Magill received the award in recognition of his service in a multitude of institutional and national leadership roles, including Chair of DFPM from 1995 to 2016, Executive Medical Director of the University’s Community Physicians Group, membership on the Boards of Directors of STFM and the Annals of Family Medicine, member of the ACGME Review Committee for Family Medicine, fifteen years as Associate Editor of the STFM journal, Family Medicine, President of the Association of Departments of Family Medicine, and Chair-Elect of the American Board of Family Medicine.
