Dr. Okuyemi Selected for the 2021 Hames Research Award

The Hames Research Award, which was named in honor of the late Dr. Curtis G. Hames, Sr., is presented each year to a person whose career achievements have significantly advanced family medicine research and scholarship. For 2021, the awardee of this prestigious award is DFPM's own Chair, Kola Okuyemi, MD, MPH. Dr. Okuyemi was chosen for the award by a wide-ranging panel of experts, including representatives from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG), and Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM).

"The committee's decision is based on the significance of your continued family medicine research contributions by way of discovery, teaching, and mentorship," reads the committee’s congratulatory letter to Dr. Okuyemi.

Of Dr. Okuyemi award, SVP Michael Good, MD Michael Good, MD, said, "I note that the award is for 'career accomplishments [that] have significantly advanced family medicine research and scholarship at all levels of the academic continuum.' To me, 'career' awards deserve special attention, as they represent sustain efforts of excellence over years and usually decades. It is wonderful that your peers and community recognize you and your work in this way. Again, hearty congratulations. A well-deserved honor and recognition indeed.”

As part of his acceptance of the award, Dr. Okuyemi will present at the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine conference, which will take place later in May.
