In an exciting venture, the 2023 HBCU Summer Programs Trip took place in Moab, UT from June 23 to 25. Bringing together the REACH U2, IMPACT, and 5 for the Fight programs. The weekend was nothing short of extraordinary. The trip commenced with an exhilarating 4x4 hummer adventure through the infamous Hell's Gate, offering stunning views and an adrenaline rush like no other. We navigated the rugged terrain with awe and excitement. This trip was a first exposure to the red rock desert for the majority of all participants.
We embarked on a thrilling river raft trip down the majestic Colorado River, hosted by Canyonlands Field Institute and expertly guided by Michele Johnson. Their expertise and passion for environmental education made the experience not only thrilling but also enlightening, deepening our appreciation for nature's wonders. Our grand finale was a hike to the iconic Delicate Arch, Utah’s infamous natural arch that left us inspired. Some of our scholars showcased their determination and athleticism by running all the way to the top.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Simone Lawrence, Program Manager of IMPACT, for her exceptional organizational skills and dedication to making this trip an immense success. Her efforts ensured that every moment was meticulously planned and flawlessly executed.
As we reflect on this remarkable adventure, we express our immense gratitude to NCA&T for funding this trip for the REACH U2 program.
Stay tuned for more updates and exciting adventures from the REACH U2 program, as we continue to inspire, empower, and uplift our scholars through transformative experiences.
