8th Annual Utah Primary Care Summit: Uniting Stakeholders to Address Health Equity and Workforce Shortages
[Salt Lake City, 7/17/2023] – The Utah Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) is proud to announce the highly anticipated 8th Annual Utah AHEC Primary Care Summit. This esteemed event brings together key primary care stakeholders from across the state of Utah to engage in fruitful discussions, share innovative perspectives, and collaborate on effective solutions to address health equity and workforce concerns. The summit will take place on October 13, 2023 at the Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City from 7:30 AM to 3:15 PM.
The 8th Annual Utah AHEC Primary Care Summit serves as a platform for primary care practitioners, educators, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders to come together and collectively tackle the challenges faced by Utah's primary care workforce. By fostering open dialogue and knowledge exchange, the event aims to celebrate the accomplishments made over the past year while advancing strategic plans to combat persistent shortages in the state's primary care workforce.
Utah has long recognized the importance of equitable healthcare access for all its residents. However, ensuring health equity remains a significant challenge, exacerbated by workforce shortages in the primary care sector. The summit will serve as a critical forum for attendees to explore these interconnected issues and develop actionable strategies to overcome them.
"We are excited to bring together a diverse group of primary care stakeholders who are dedicated to addressing health equity and workforce shortages," said Dr. Ivette A. Lopez, Director of Utah AHEC. "Through collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing, we can create lasting solutions that will positively impact the well-being of Utah's residents and strengthen our primary care system."
The 8th Annual Utah AHEC Primary Care Summit will feature a keynote presentation by Emmy and Pulitzer Prize winner Maria Hinojosa, a leader in representative reporting and a powerful voice in today’s media landscape. In addition to Hinojosa’s remarks, the Summit will have engaging panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field, participate in breakout sessions, and contribute to the development of actionable strategies.
Key topics to be discussed include:
-
- Promoting health equity in underserved communities
- Enhancing diversity and cultural competency in primary care
- Innovative approaches to primary care workforce recruitment and retention
- Leveraging technology and telehealth for expanded access to care
- Advancing interprofessional collaboration in primary care settings
The summit will not only serve as a platform for sharing best practices and success stories but also as a catalyst for building lasting partnerships among stakeholders. Participants will have the opportunity to forge connections, exchange ideas, and collaborate on initiatives that will shape the future of primary care in Utah.
