The culmination of a residency training program is a time of great celebration, as residents are rewarded for the incredible efforts they have put into gaining clinical knowledge and experience, demonstrating leadership, and developing the skills they will need in future practice. This last week, the 2023 Class of Family Medicine residents commemorated the conclusion of their program, joining with friends, family, and department faculty to celebrate their achievements.
Attendees of the graduation ceremonies had the opportunity to hear remarks from Jennifer Leiser, MD, recently retired from her position as Chief of the Division of Family Medicine. Dr. Leiser was followed by a thank-you message from the Utah Physician Assistant Program (UPAP) to the residents, delivered by Shaun Curran, MPAS, PA-C. The keynote speaker of the event was DFPM faculty Osman Sanyer, MD, who encouraged the residents to continue to contribute to the family medicine specialty by committing to its principles of care and building a culture of inclusion and commitment.
Following Dr. Sanyer’s remarks, each resident was highlighted by their faculty advisor. The advisors praised the residents’ for their wisdom, compassion, commitment, and leadership and wished them well in their next endeavors. The presentation of the residents was followed by special awards for residents and faculty. Kirsten Stoesser, MD, director of the residency program, provided closing remarks and awards to chief residents.
