We are pleased to announce Tanis Garcia as the new Associate Director of Research Development for the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM).
In this role, she will work closely with the Vice Chair for Research, Joseph Stanford, MD to guide research programs and strategy in DFPM.
Tanis will oversee the staff within the Central Administration Research Office (CARO), who serve the department in pre-award, post-award, research development, scholarship navigation, and biostatistical support.
She will facilitate engagement with extramurally funded research opportunities, aligning funding sources with the strengths of researchers. Tanis will manage the Community Health and Innovation (CHAIN) initiative, which will engage public health graduate students in quality and research activities in the Community Physician Group (CPG). She will help revitalize the Practice Based Research Network and administer the Health Studies Fund.
At a leadership level, she will participate in preparing department goals and budgets. Tanis will oversee the collection and reporting of metrics for internal research operations and productivity, as well as for external entities regarding research expenditures, proposal details, and award data.
With nearly 11 years of employment at the University of Utah, Tanis has filled several positions in financial management, pre-award, and post-award. Most recently, she served as a Senior Research Manager for DFPM. Tanis holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Weber State University and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Utah.
Tanis looks forward to maintaining and forming new, collaborative relationships with researchers and leaders within the department and across the Health Sciences community.
